When a dermatologist suspects that a patient has skin cancer he will biopsy the site to get a definitive diagnosis. If it is then determined that a skin cancer is present, plans are made for removal. The majority of skin cancers can be cured if detected and treated in time.
There are a number of different skin cancers, the three most common forms being basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. Dr. Tausend recommends yearly skin exams for the early diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer.
